FOTV Needs You!

Hello Friends of the Village!

I hope you’ve had a great summer break, had the chance to meet LLV families old & new and are refreshed and raring to go for LLV version 2021!

Friends of the Village (FOTV) are also keen to get started this year and we’re currently looking for nominees to the FOTV Executive Committee, leaders for many of our Working Groups and Socialites for most LLV stages.

Being actively involved with FOTV gives you fantastic opportunities to work closer with the broader LLV parent & carer community, school staff & teachers and often also with the students!  FOTV creates initiatives and performs work guided by our values of Collaboration, Connection, Enthusiasm and Welcoming.  We are passionate about connecting parents & carers with each other and the school, so that as a community we can collaborate, ideate and innovate; and create an amazing school experience for the whole Village!

Friends of the Village Executive Committee

These FOTV Exec Committee positions are in most need, as we already have nominations for other positions:

Vice President (2 positions vacant)
The VPs provide oversight and support of the FOTV Working Groups, pitching in as required, and work closely with the other FOTV Executive Committee members on overall direction and leadership of FOTV.

Secretary
The FOTV Secretary oversees all governance requirements of the P&C (with significant input from the FOTV Treasurer), manages and administers all aspects of FOTV meetings and also works closely with the other FOTV Executive Committee members on overall direction and leadership of FOTV.

Friends of the Village Working Group Leads

The following FOTV Working Groups are also in need of Leaders.  Working Group Leaders focus on the overall operation of their area, receiving support and advice from the FOTV Exec Committee where required.  This allows them to dedicate their efforts and provides autonomy for day-to-day decision making, including the enlisting & coordination of other parent volunteers.

Social
Planning and organising all FOTV social events for the primary purposes of connecting families and maintaining positive vibes in the Village.  e.g. 2019 highlights were 70s Trivia Night, Parent Cocktail Party and Primary School Disco.  2020 was COVID-affected but we still managed Virtual Drinks via Zoom, Stage Socialites catch-ups and the Welcome to New Families program.  2021 promises to be the year where we get on top of COVID-safe social events in creative ways so there will be more opportunities to connect!

Fundraising and Community Outreach
Developing and actioning initiatives that can raise funds for and increase engagement opportunities with LLV, FOTV or suitable community and charitable organisations.  Funds raised in 2019 led to the refurbishment of the Bitter Pea Café and Fish Pond and in 2020 we made & donated face masks to the Family Referral Service (Naremburn), held a Sustainability fundraiser and ensured the well-being of the FOTV community during COVID via online resources, family activities and hand-written postcards.

Sustainability
Working with the school on sustainability initiatives that involve and engage LLV families.  Focus so far has been on the new Sustainability Learning Area, and there is still work to be done on this, but there are many other opportunities to pursue sustainability projects in 2021.  If you’re enthusiastic about encouraging the education of ecology and the environment and don’t mind getting your hands dirty (literally!) then volunteer to be the Sustainability Working Group Lead!

Technology
FOTV needs help in overall administration and support of all of the technology systems that have already been implemented in our short history: Google Suite, Slack, website (WordPress), online shop (Shopify), Zoom, FinTech, etc.  As the school grows, so does the need to have smoothly running, adaptable and scalable technology to maintain connection & collaboration in the FOTV community. If you’re systematic, process driven and believe that life choices are just a series of If-Then statements then volunteer to be the Technology Working Group Lead and get out of your While loop!

Communications
Although not a working group, FOTV comms need to be planned, designed and sent out as part of a broader communications approach.  FOTV is on the lookout for someone who can be the primary performer and coordinator of all FOTV comms across the various digital channels that parents & carers use.  If you have a flair for communicating with & engaging audiences and building communities, then please put your hand up to be the FOTV Comms Lead!

FOTV Stage Socialites

We are also on the lookout for Stage Socialites.
The primary focus of Stage Socialites is to build community spirit through organising social events for each Stage Group.
Additionally there is also some co-ordination required to source parent help for school or stage based events, communicate FOTV info and manage the stage’s contact list.

We already have Stage Socialite nominations for Kindy, Stage 1 and Stage 4 but if you’re super keen and your child(ren) is in one of these stages, more help is always appreciated.
We really need Socialites for: Stage 2, Stage 3, Stage 5 and Stage 6.

If you are interested in any of the above and/or would like more information, please email me at president@llv.community ASAP (but no later than Friday 5 February) and I’ll let you know what the next steps are.  At the very least we’d like to get the Exec Committee positions endorsed at our 2021 AGM, currently scheduled for mid-late February.

Cheers
Jason
